7495 mussel extract powder SD is a creamy white powder comprising of a fresh, distinctive mussel flavour free of taints and off colouring, offering distinctive odour and taste typical of fresh marine bivalve molluscs.
Blue mussel (Mytilus edulis) is sourced from the north Atlantic (FAO area 27). Boiling juice of the mussels is carefully extracted via vacuum evaporation at low temperatures, followed by spray drying into a powder. Therefore, in production of 7485 Mussel Extract Powder SD, raw materials (Wild blue mussel) undergo processing in a manner that preserves the desired nutritional qualities and sensory characteristics of the fresh blue mussel. Particularly, these include the flavour and odour, whilst providing an extended shelf life and re-assured food safety.
With regards to fish and shellfish allergy and hypersensitivity, HACCP principals should be applied to prevent allergy risk and due to the nature and origin of the powder. Careful handling to prevent direct inhalation should be undertaken to prevent potential irritation as these products are not intended for consumption in dry concentrate powder form. With regards to the inherent considerations of bivalve consumption, all production batches of 7495 mussel extract powder SD are extensively monitored for PSP, ASP and DSP.
