Fish powder is made using Coalfish (Pollachius virens) of which wild stocks have shown to be making a major comeback. The fresh raw material is sourced from the north Atlantic (FAO area 27). Raw material is then ground, cooked, dried and micro milled. 0268 Fish powder is a fine creamy white powder comprising of a 95% particle size of <106µm and offering a characteristic fishy taste when dissolved in water. 0271 Coalfish powder typically comprises of 87-89% crude protein and 3.5-4% crude lipid (fat). However, much like most other marine resources, may be subject to negligible variation in nutritional profile, the range of which is in the accompanied product specification.
In production of 0268 Fish Powder, raw materials undergo processing in a manner that preserves the nutritional qualities and sensory characteristics of codfish. These include the flavour and protein content, whilst providing an extended shelf life and re-assured food safety.
Processing methods employed aim to reduce bitterness within the taste profile, without effecting protein content. Antioxidant and emulsifying properties have also shown to be beneficial physiochemical properties with cod proteins. Numerous scientific trials have also found that intake of cod protein can be associated with a decrease in the risk of type 2 diabetes, decrease stroke risk and have effects against cardiovascular disease.
Many feed trials with numerous species of mammals and fish have also explored increased growth, crystalline amino acid utilisation and potential Immuno-stimulatory effects and with supplementation with cod protein.
Supplied in 500g, 1kg, 2kg & 20kg quantities, 0268 white fish powder has a best before shelf life of 15 months from production when kept in cool dry conditions. Full product specification is available including amino acid profiles.
With regards to fish and shellfish allergy and hypersensitivity, HACCP principals should be applied to prevent allergy risk and due to the nature and origin of the powder. Careful handling to prevent direct inhalation should be undertaken to prevent potential irritation as these products are not intended for consumption in concentrate dry powder form.
0268 white fish powder is packaged in a hermetically sealed container and conforms to EC regulations 178/2002 and 852/2004 and does not contain any GM ingredients or processing aids under EC regulations 1829/2003 and 1830/2003.
